How long will the system be down?
The system will go off-line from December 20th until December 21st. During this time, it will not be possible to log into Brightspace/D2L.
What will this upgrade entail?
The system will be upgraded from version 10.7.0 to 10.8.8 (eighteen minor versions). While this might seem a dramatic leap, it isn't. The impact will be less than the Daylight transition.
Our Brightspace system will be updated to the latest and greatest version on December 21st. In the future, minor upgrades/improvements/fixes will be conducted each month with no downtime.

There are several places to get help with Brightspace. Listed below are the venues and listed further down in the FAQ questions in this section are types of help they provide:
- D2LHelp - as part of the USG contract agreement we have 24/7 support for faculty and student provided by Desire2Learn.
- MGA Technology Assistance Center (TAC) - The TAC provides help for MGA students in need of technical assistance related to passwords, email, or SWORDS. Contact the TAC during business hours at 478-471-2023, 478-934-3319, firstname.lastname@example.org or open up a ticket at the MGA Help Desk.
When should I let my instructor know I have a D2L (Brightspace) problem?
If your problem may have any kind of impact on your grade or a due date, you should let your instructor know about the issue immediately.
When should I reach out to D2L Help?
D2LHelp is a support system that is manned by Desire2Learn staff. The University System of Georgia has a contract for this support.
This group provides general help for Students and Faculty. It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This group can assist with:
- How-To questions such as, 'How do I submit something to an assignment', How do I use email, etc.
- Browser related issues, login issues, why is the system unavailable
- Standard operational issues
If you look on the website https://d2lhelp.view.usg.edu/, there is a phone number that will allow you to speak with a support representative, as well as, a chat feature.
Since this service is for all of USG, this group does not have any information about issues that are local to each campus such as, has your campus email account has been created or if your registration for classes has been completed.
When should I contact the MGA Technology Assistance Center (TAC)?
The mission of the TAC is to provide technology support for all MGA students and faculty. The TAC can help you with:
- Password Resets
- Campus email
- Network account
- Connect to our wireless network
- Simple technical problems
The support provided for Brightspace is 'level one'. Complex problems should be routed to D2LHelp. The TAC can check to see if your D2L account has been created and see if you have been enrolled in your classes as well as reset your password.

I have never logged into Brightspace (D2L) and I do not know what my password is, what should I do?
You should first set up your email address before logging into D2L. Your email user name and password will be used to log into the Braightspace/D2L system.
I do not know my Brightspace (D2L) password, what should I do?
It is the same as your email & network password.

I can log into D2L, but my classes are not showing up.
Students cannot view their courses in D2L until the class begins, however they might be able to log into D2L. Typically, the start date is the first day of classes.
Classes have started already and I cannot log into D2L. Why?
Your problem might be related to the fact your D2L account has not been created. The system that you register for classes in (Banner) and D2L are separate systems. It usually takes 24 hours after you register for classes in SWORDS (Banner) before your D2L account is created.
What session is your class? We often get this question when a student is trying to get into a class that hasn't started.

It's Friday night and I cannot log into Brightspace, why?

When will Single Sign-On take effect?
It will be enabled during the scheduled maintenance period December 16, 2017.
How does Single Sign-On impact me?
- Starting December 16, 2017 the login process for D2L (Brightspace) will change.
- There will no longer be a separate password for D2L.
- Your network/email password will be your D2L password.
How does the single sign-on process work?
You will no longer have a separate D2L password. You will use your MGA email username (firstname.lastname@example.org) and password to login at https://www.mga.view.edu.
On this page, you will see a button that says "Click to Login". This button will take you to where you will provide your email account name and your current email password (NOT YOUR OLD D2L PASSWORD).
Once you provide that information correctly, you will get into D2L.
I have been using a D2L account that does not have an email address and isn't capable of logging into the campus network, what do I do?
These type of accounts do not exist inside the MGA network (or Active Directory), therefore they do not have a corresponding email address.
Note: These accounts do NOT have the email@example.com format.
